A possible way ahead for Higher Education Development
As noted earlier, consideration of sector-wide strategies for improving student
success and equity has been evolving since the 1980s, but there is now a pressing
need for moving such work to a new level. The following are brief suggestions for
taking this initiative further through engagement with different bodies.

The universities
•
While the institutions are not expected to be the drivers of decisive change in
priorities in present circumstances, it is of course essential for the educational
development community to take all opportunities to build expertise and
recognition in their home universities

especially by making a substantial and assessable difference to student
success and equity
•
In present circumstances, finding independent sources of funding for such work is
invaluable for reputational as well as operational reasons.

Student bodies
•
Important to make every effort to widen the educational agenda of student
bodies to incorporate an informed and comprehensive focus on student success
